ABOUT THIS EXHIBITION
 
Each summer I visit the Denver Botanic Gardens on a regular basis with sketchbook in hand. Visitors come and go as I’m absorbed in my surroundings. I eves-drop in on snippets of the conversations muffled by waterfalls streaming in the background. I watch ducklings frolicking in the pond spotted with colorful water lilies while all along being mesmerized by the gentle motion of the natural surroundings. Somehow the accumulation of all of this is absorbed in these “painted drawings”. I’ve chosen the color “green” as the unifying element – exploring its dimensions in relationship to browns, taupes, neutrals …Gestural lines and shapes of geometric character resonate with the natural surroundings.
They signify nothing, refer to nothing but themselves:

THE COLOR “GREEN”
 
 
We take GREEN for granted for it is inherent in our natural surroundings of trees, grass, plants and is associated with words such as “sap green”, “forest green” and “green apples”.
 
GREEN-manufactured products are particularly ‘IN” these days – water bottles, construction site dumpsters, fashion apparel. . .
 
References to GREEN are “army green” and “emerald green”, “serene green” and “green with envy” and “Green Bay Packers”.
 
And, symbolically GREEN references growth, rebirth and fertility.
 
GREEN can be a testy color and distasteful when used too much or too little.
 
And GREEN can be beautiful with its whole host of inviting properties.
